About SHA-256

SHA-256 (Secure Hash Algorithm 256-bit) is a cryptographic hash function that produces a fixed 64-character hexadecimal output for any input, no matter how long. The same input always produces the same hash, and even a tiny change to the input produces a completely different hash. It’s widely used for data integrity checks, digital signatures, and as a building block in many security systems. This tool uses your browser’s native, built-in Web Crypto API to compute it — not a third-party library.

FAQ

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The hash is computed entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your text is never sent to our server.

Can I reverse a SHA-256 hash back to the original text?

No — hashing is a one-way operation by design. There’s no way to recover the original input from its hash alone.

Why does the same input always produce the same hash?

SHA-256 is deterministic — it has no randomness. This is what makes it useful for verifying that a file or piece of text hasn’t changed: hash it twice and compare.
