Enter a city to see its current Air Quality Index and pollutant levels. This tool sends your search directly from your browser to a free air quality API — not through our server.

We do not log or store the cities you search for.

This tool sends your input directly from your browser to Open-Meteo's Air Quality API (data from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service).

How Our Live Air Quality Index Tool Works

This tool fetches live Air Quality Index data from Open-Meteo’s Air Quality API. The raw environmental metrics are sourced directly from CAMS, the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service, which is a European Union earth-observation programme. As a result, the environmental data is refreshed on an hourly basis.

Our Air Quality Index checker displays both the European AQI (EEA scale, 0–100+) and the US AQI (EPA scale, 0–300+). Furthermore, these two standards use different pollutant weightings and threshold calculations. Therefore, the numbers are not directly comparable between them.

The health guidance shown for each band reflects official published wording from those two scales. In addition, this information is intended as general public awareness rather than personalized medical advice.

Health Disclaimer

This tool displays general, published Air Quality Index guidance and is not medical advice. If you have a respiratory or heart condition, or have specific health concerns, please follow official guidance from your local health authority or medical doctor.

FAQ

Why do the European AQI and US AQI show different categories for the same city?

They use different scales and pollutant weightings. For example, the EEA and EPA define their categories independently. Therefore, this variation is expected and is not an error in this tool. We display both standards so you can use whichever scale is more familiar to you.

How current is this Air Quality Index data?

Open-Meteo’s air quality data (from CAMS) typically refreshes hourly — this is a recent snapshot, not a real-time continuous feed.

Where does this data come from?

The Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), a European Union programme, via Open-Meteo’s free API — both are named and linked on this page.
