How This Calculator Works
This tool applies the actual FY 2025-26 (AY 2026-27) slab rates for both regimes:
- New Regime: ₹0-4L nil, ₹4-8L 5%, ₹8-12L 10%, ₹12-16L 15%, ₹16-20L 20%, ₹20-24L 25%, above ₹24L 30% — with a ₹75,000 standard deduction for salaried individuals/pensioners, and a Section 87A rebate that brings tax to zero for taxable income up to ₹12 lakh.
- Old Regime: ₹0-2.5L nil, ₹2.5-5L 5%, ₹5-10L 20%, above ₹10L 30% — with a ₹50,000 standard deduction and a Section 87A rebate down to ₹5 lakh, plus whatever other deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, etc.) you enter.
Both regimes add a 4% health and education cess on the tax remaining after the rebate.
This calculator deliberately does not include: surcharge for very high incomes (above ₹50 lakh), or the more gradual “marginal relief” that applies to income just above each rebate threshold. Both add real complexity for a minority of taxpayers — if either applies to you, consult a tax professional or the Income Tax Department’s own calculator for a precise figure.
FAQ
Which regime should I choose?
It depends on how many deductions you actually claim — the New Regime has lower rates but disallows most deductions (80C, HRA, etc.), while the Old Regime has higher rates but allows them. Calculate both here and compare which gives you a lower tax.
Why is my tax zero even though I have taxable income?
The Section 87A rebate fully cancels out tax for taxable income up to ₹12 lakh under the New Regime (₹5 lakh under the Old Regime) — this is a real, legal provision, not a calculation error.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter here is sent to our server.
