What This Tool Actually Does

This tool re-encodes your image as JPG or WebP at the quality level you choose — the same lossy re-encoding approach every browser-based image compressor uses. It is not a lossless optimizer: a JPG or WebP at a lower quality setting will look slightly softer, in exchange for a smaller file. If your image is already small or has very few colors (like a simple graphic), re-encoding it can occasionally come out larger — this tool tells you plainly when that happens instead of only ever claiming a size reduction.

FAQ

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Compression happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never sent to our server.

Which format should I choose?

JPG is the most broadly compatible choice for photos. WebP typically compresses further at the same visual quality, but is a newer format — check that wherever you plan to use the file supports it.
