About SHA-512

SHA-512 is part of the same SHA-2 family as SHA-256, but produces a longer, 128-character hexadecimal output (512 bits, vs. SHA-256’s 256 bits) and generally runs faster on 64-bit systems. Like SHA-256, it’s deterministic and one-way: the same input always produces the same hash, and there’s no way to reverse it back to the original text. This tool uses your browser’s native, built-in Web Crypto API to compute it.

FAQ

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The hash is computed entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Your text is never sent to our server.

SHA-256 or SHA-512 — which should I use?

For most purposes either is secure; SHA-256 produces a shorter hash and is more common in web contexts, while SHA-512 offers a larger security margin and can be faster on 64-bit hardware. Use whichever a specific system or format you’re working with requires.

Can I reverse a SHA-512 hash back to the original text?

No — like all cryptographic hash functions, it’s a one-way operation by design.
