Enter two place names below to find the straight-line (great-circle) distance between them, in kilometers and miles, with both points shown on a map. This tool sends your search directly from your browser to a free geocoding API — not through our server.
We do not log or store the places you search for. Distance is calculated locally in your browser.

Calculating…
How This Calculation Works
Both place names are geocoded to coordinates, and the distance between them is then calculated using the great-circle formula — the shortest path between two points on the Earth’s curved surface, the same method used by aircraft and ships for long-distance navigation. This is a straight “as the crow flies” distance, not a driving or walking route, so it will usually be shorter than what a road-trip planner would show.
FAQ
Is this a driving distance?
No — this is the straight-line distance between the two points, not a road route. Actual travel distance by road will typically be longer.
Can I use exact coordinates instead of place names?
This tool is built for place names with autocomplete suggestions. If you already have exact coordinates for both points, our Bearing Calculator and Midpoint Calculator tools accept raw latitude/longitude directly.
Do you store the places I search for?
No. The distance is calculated locally in your browser after both places are geocoded, and we don’t log or store your searches.
