Map Area Calculator

Calculate the area enclosed by a polygon of coordinates, with a map.

Map Tools

Enter the coordinates of a polygon’s corners below, one “latitude, longitude” pair per line (at least 3), to calculate the area they enclose and see it drawn on a map. Everything is calculated locally in your browser.

How This Calculation Works

The vertices you enter are connected in order into a closed polygon, and its area is calculated on the Earth’s curved surface (not a flat-plane approximation), giving an accurate result even for larger areas like a farm plot, a district boundary, or a survey site. The result is shown in square kilometers (or square meters for very small areas), hectares, and acres.

FAQ

Does the order of the vertices matter?

Enter them in order around the polygon’s perimeter (either clockwise or counter-clockwise) — not in a random or crossed order, which would produce an incorrect (or self-intersecting) shape.

Do I need to repeat the first point at the end?

No — the tool automatically closes the polygon back to your first point.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The area is calculated entirely in your browser — nothing you enter here is sent to our server.
