Overview

The FASTag National Electronic Toll Collection system is a flagship initiative operated by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Designed to enable seamless movement across national highways, the FASTag National Electronic Toll Collection mechanism allows drivers to pay toll charges automatically without stopping at toll plazas.

The primary aim of the FASTag National Electronic Toll Collection network is to reduce traffic congestion, eliminate long waiting times, and promote digital payments across India’s national and state highway networks. Utilising Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, FASTag tags attached to vehicle windscreens are linked directly to prepaid bank accounts or digital wallets.
