Overview

The Janani Suraksha Yojana Scheme is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Health Mission (NHM) implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Designed to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality among pregnant women, the Janani Suraksha Yojana Scheme promotes institutional delivery among poor pregnant women by providing cash financial assistance alongside post-delivery care services.

Overview of Janani Suraksha Yojana Scheme

The core objective of the Janani Suraksha Yojana Scheme is to encourage pregnant women from low-income households to register their pregnancies and give birth in certified government health centers or accredited private hospitals. By integrating cash incentives with Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) worker support, the mission ensures timely antenatal check-ups, institutional birth safety, and essential newborn care.
