How This Tool Works

This tool calls GitHub’s public REST API directly from your browser to fetch the user’s profile and up to 100 of their repositories, then computes “top languages” by counting how many of their own (non-fork) repositories use each language as their primary language — a simple repo-count tally, not the byte-weighted percentage GitHub shows on its own profile pages. GitHub limits unauthenticated API requests like this one to 60 per hour per network — a limit set by GitHub itself, which this tool has no way to raise.

FAQ

Why did I get a rate-limit error?

GitHub allows only 60 unauthenticated API requests per hour from the same network — if your network (or others sharing it) has used this tool or GitHub’s API a lot recently, you may need to wait before trying again.

Why don’t the top languages match my GitHub profile page exactly?

GitHub’s own profile page weighs each repository’s languages by lines of code across your whole account; this tool simply counts how many of your repositories have each language set as their primary one — a different, simpler measure.

Does this include forked repositories?

No — “top languages” and “top repositories” both exclude forks, so the numbers reflect the user’s own original work.
