JavaScript Formatter

Format, beautify and minify JavaScript online directly in your browser. Fast, private and free — your code never leaves your device and is never executed.

Developer ToolsFormatterJavaScript

Use our free online JavaScript formatter tool to instantly beautify, minify, and structurally validate your JS code inside your browser.

Your JavaScript is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to our server. It is never executed.

How Our JavaScript Formatter Tool Works

First, our converter parses your JavaScript text directly in your browser. Next, the tool re-indents your code based on brace and bracket structure. In addition, you can choose to minify code by removing extra whitespace or validate structural brackets. For official ECMAScript language specifications, you can review the official MDN JavaScript Standards documentation.

Why Use a JavaScript Formatter for Code Optimization?

Messy, unformatted code makes debugging difficult for developers. Therefore, using a reliable code beautifier provides several practical benefits:

  1. First, format messy JavaScript into clean, readable, indented lines.
  2. Second, minify scripts safely without altering core language logic.
  3. Third, validate matching brackets and quotation marks before deployment.

Consequently, relying on a secure JavaScript formatter streamlines your web development workflow.

Your Code Is Never Executed

This tool treats your JavaScript purely as text. It is never passed to eval(), never passed to the Function() constructor, never assigned via innerHTML, and never inserted into a <script> element on this page. Formatting, minifying, and validating are all done by reading and rewriting the text itself — your code cannot run as a side effect of using this tool.

What Validate Actually Checks

This tool’s Validate action is a structural check, not a full ECMAScript parser or syntax validator. It confirms that every {, [, and ( has a matching close, every string and template literal is properly closed, and every block comment is terminated with */ — reporting the exact line and column of the first problem found. It does not check variable declarations, syntax rules, or language semantics, and it never runs your code to find out.

Formatting vs Minification

Formatting re-indents your code based on its brace, bracket, and parenthesis structure so it’s easy to read. Minification removes unnecessary whitespace and comments to produce a smaller output. This is a safe, conservative minifier, not a production JavaScript optimizer — it never renames variables, rewrites expressions, changes operators, or adds or removes a semicolon, and it never fully deletes a line break that existed in your code, to avoid changing how JavaScript’s automatic semicolon insertion behaves.

FAQ

Is my code uploaded to external servers during formatting?

No, because our browser engine processes all scripts locally using native string processing. Consequently, your source code remains completely private.

Does this tool execute or run my JavaScript code?

No, because our system treats your input strictly as plain text. Therefore, your scripts never run as a side effect.

Is there a size limit?

There’s no artificial limit, but very large input is bound by your browser’s own memory and performance, since everything runs client-side.

Do I need an account?

No. The tool is free to use and doesn’t require sign-up.
