How This Tool Works

This tool follows redirects (301, 302, 303, 307, 308) one hop at a time from our server, up to 5 hops, and shows you the full chain: every intermediate URL, its status code, and the final destination. Useful for checking whether a URL redirects the way you expect, spotting redirect loops or excessive hop chains (which slow down page loads), and confirming HTTP-to-HTTPS or www-to-non-www redirects are set up correctly.

FAQ

What’s the difference between a 301 and a 302 redirect?

301 means “moved permanently” — search engines transfer ranking signals to the new URL. 302 means “moved temporarily” — the original URL is expected to be used again, and ranking signals generally aren’t transferred the same way.

How many redirect hops is too many?

Each hop adds a full round-trip to page load time. More than 2-3 hops is generally worth investigating and simplifying to a single direct redirect where possible.

Do you store the URLs I check?

No — we do not log or store the URLs you check with this tool.
