Querying WHOIS…
How This Tool Works
WHOIS is its own, older internet protocol (port 43), separate from HTTP — there’s no single universal WHOIS server, so this tool first asks IANA’s root WHOIS server which registry is authoritative for your domain’s extension (.com, .org, .io, and so on), then queries that registry directly for the real record. This is the same two-step lookup every WHOIS client performs.
WHOIS response formats vary between registries — there’s no single universal layout. This tool pulls out a handful of commonly-present fields (registrar, creation/expiry dates, status) on a best-effort basis, and always shows the complete raw record underneath, which is the authoritative source either way.
FAQ
Why don’t I see the domain owner’s name/address?
Most registrars now redact personal registrant details by default (via privacy/proxy services, and regulations like GDPR) — this is normal for the vast majority of domains, not a limitation of this tool.
Some fields are missing for the domain I checked — why?
WHOIS output format varies significantly by registry — this tool extracts a handful of commonly-present fields on a best-effort basis, but always shows the complete raw record, which will have the full detail even when a specific field isn’t auto-extracted above it.
Do you store the domains I check?
No — we do not log or store the domains you check with this tool.
