Paste XML below to instantly format, minify, or structurally validate it. Everything runs in your browser — nothing you enter here is uploaded, stored, or logged.

Your XML is processed locally in your browser and is not uploaded to our server.

How to Use

 1. Paste or type your XML into the input panel.
 2. Click Format / Beautify for readable, indented XML, Minify for a smaller whitespace-free output, or Validate to check that every tag, comment, CDATA section, and declaration is properly formed and closed.
 3. Use Copy Output or Download to take the result with you.

What is XML?

XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a text-based format for representing structured, hierarchical data using nested elements and attributes. Unlike JSON, XML has no built-in data types — everything is text — but it supports features JSON doesn’t, like namespaces (for combining vocabularies from different sources without naming collisions), attributes alongside element content, comments, and CDATA sections for embedding raw, unescaped text. It’s widely used for configuration files, SOAP/RSS/Atom feeds, document formats (like DOCX and SVG under the hood), and data exchange between older enterprise systems.

What Validate Actually Checks

This tool’s Validate action checks structural well-formedness — not XML Schema (XSD) or DTD validation. It confirms that every opening tag has a matching, correctly-nested closing tag; that tags, comments, CDATA sections, and declarations are properly terminated; and that attribute values are properly quoted — reporting the exact line and column of the first problem found. It does not check your document against a schema, verify element/attribute names against a vocabulary, or confirm DTD-declared constraints. Well-formedness is the foundation every valid XML document needs regardless of schema, which is why it’s the right first check.

Namespaces and CDATA

Namespaces (xmlns="..." or xmlns:prefix="...") let an XML document combine element vocabularies from different sources without name collisions — this tool preserves namespace declarations and prefixes exactly as written, both when formatting and minifying. CDATA sections ( ... ) let you embed text containing characters like < and & without escaping them — their content is always preserved byte-for-byte, never reformatted or reparsed as markup.

FAQ

Is my XML uploaded anywhere?

No. Formatting, minifying, and validating all happen locally in your browser using native JavaScript. Your input is never sent to our server, and it is never inserted into this page as live XML or HTML — it is only ever read and written as plain text.

Does Validate catch every XML mistake?

No — see “What Validate Actually Checks” above. It catches mismatched/unclosed tags and malformed comments, CDATA, and declarations, which are the most common structural mistakes, but it is not a substitute for XML Schema (XSD) or DTD validation against a specific vocabulary.

Will formatting change my data?

No. Formatting only adds indentation and line breaks between tags — attribute values, text content, comments, and CDATA sections are preserved exactly. Content mixing text and elements together (like
This is important text.
) is kept on one line rather than split apart, since splitting it could change how the content reads.

Is there a size limit?

There’s no artificial limit, but very large input is bound by your browser’s own memory and performance, since everything runs client-side.

Do I need an account?

No. The tool is free to use and doesn’t require sign-up.
