How This Works

A naive random point (picking a uniformly random latitude and a uniformly random longitude independently) actually clusters points near the poles, because lines of longitude converge there — the same square degree of latitude/longitude covers far less real ground near the poles than at the equator. This tool corrects for that, sampling latitude so that every point on the sphere’s surface is equally likely, within whichever bounding box you set.

FAQ

What is this useful for?

Generating test data for map-based applications, picking a random destination for a game or challenge, or exploring a random spot on Earth.

Can I limit it to a specific region?

Yes — set the min/max latitude and longitude fields to a bounding box around the region you want, e.g. roughly 8 to 37 latitude and 68 to 97 longitude for India.

Is my data uploaded anywhere?

No. The point is generated entirely in your browser — nothing is sent to our server.
