How This Calculation Works
Scientific notation writes a number as a value between 1 and 10 multiplied by a power of 10 (for example, 1,234,000 becomes 1.234 × 10⁶). This calculator converts a standard decimal number into that form. Converting the other direction — from a mantissa and exponent back into a standard number — is a distinct mode that may be added separately in the future.
